Advance Transformer Co. is the industry leader in the design, development,
manufacture and sale of fluorescent and high intensity discharge (HID)
ballasts for commercial, industrial and institutional lighting. Since the
first ADVANCE ballast was manufactured in 1945, Advance has built a reputation
for excellence through ongoing commitments to technology, long-standing
relationships with leading lamp and lighting system manufacturers, and
customer satisfaction. Today, ADVANCE ballasts provide the benefits of
reliability, versatility, energy efficiency and long service life in millions
of installations worldwide.

LINE REACTOR
Advance Transformer's exclusive Linear Reactor ballast for pulse-start
metal halide lamps is the high-performance, energy-saving choice for 277v/60hz
circuits. Ballast losses are reduced by 50% as savings of 30-35 watts are
achieved by eliminating the need for voltage transformation. The Linear
Reactor's unique design eliminates excess current draw associated with
lamp starting and open circuit conditions normally associated with reactor
ballasts. Therefore, the fixtures-per-circuit count is the same as with
CWA ballasts. These ballasts are designed for 150, 200, 320, 350, and 400
watt pulse-start lamps.
REGULATED LAG
Advance Transformer's Regulated Lag ballasts for pulse-start metal halide
lamps are specifically designed to provide long lamp life, improved lumen
maintenance, and voltage-dip tolerance to meet the lighting needs of heavy
industry. Superior lamp wattage control is achieved within the ballast
by the inclusion of a regulation sub-circuit consisting of a capacitor
across a third ballast coil. Because the ballast is a lag design, the lamp
current wave form is virtually a sine wave keeping the crest factor below
1.5 (vs. 1.8 of the lead-peak CWA ballasts used with traditional probe-start
lamps).
SuperCWA
Advance Transformer developed the SuperCWA (constant wattage autotransformer) ballast as the mainstay ballast circuit for the new pulse-start metal halide lamps. The SuperCWA circuit employs an ignitor to start the lamp and a two-coil autotransformer ballast in conjunction with a dry-film capacitor for lamp operation. This separation of lamp starting and operating functions allows for an improved ballast design to provide better lamp performance as the ballast is no longer required to deliver the high open circuit voltage needed to start the traditional metal halide lamps. Specifically, the SuperCWA ballast has a low crest factor (1.6 vs. 1.8 max. allowed) to improve lumen maintenance and extend lamp life.
